OLIMAC REVOLUTIONIZES THE INDUSTRY WITH A FULLY ROBOTIZED PLANT
Maximum synergy between human resources and robotic technology
Olimac, the company based in Margarita (Cuneo), which is global leader in the design and manufacturing of corn and sunflower heads, has recently doubled the size of its plant to meet the growing global demand for its machines. This continuous growth has led the company based in the Cuneo area to export 98% of its production and become the European manufacturer that sells the most corn heads in the United States — an exceptional achievement, considering that the U.S. is the world’s largest corn producer, accounting for 40% of global production.
Today, Olimac’s facility spans over 50,000 square meters of production space on a property of more than 90,000 square meters. The extraordinary success of Olimac is no coincidence. Several unique features set it apart in the global agricultural machinery industry: the factory is ultra-technological and fully robotized.
All mechanical components installed on the Drago line of corn heads are inspected by advanced robotic measuring systems, ensuring — with zero margin of error — superior quality and long-lasting machine performance.
Olimac also stands out as the only company in the sector worldwide that designs and manufactures all components of its corn heads entirely in-house. This exclusive characteristic enables Olimac to be completely self-sufficient, independent from third-party suppliers, and to maintain a consistently high level of quality. But Olimac’s true strength lies in the combination of its human and technological resources: over 220 people work each day with passion and expertise to deliver ever more efficient and high-performing machines to farmers.
The Research and Design department is the true driving force behind all of Olimac’s operations. Staffed by brilliant engineers and designers, the department is equipped with one of the most advanced CAD-CAM systems in the world. The technology developed and all production processes are transmitted via the internal network directly to the machine tools, ensuring total control at every stage of manufacturing.
These and other unique features have enabled Olimac — a fully integrated designer and manufacturer — to focus on research and continuous technological innovation. The result is the Drago range of corn and sunflower heads: DragoGT and Drago2, the only corn heads in the world equipped with automatic self-adjusting suspension deck plates. This is a worldwide Olimac patent, allowing the machine to harvest 100% of the corn without cob or kernel loss, while ensuring maximum harvesting speed. DragoGT is also equipped with a double stalk chopper with scissor-effect, another Olimac patent, which delivers a much finer chopping of the stalks, allowing for faster decomposition of the material on the ground. The latest innovation from Olimac is the DragoGT with Auger for collecting corn residues: this new feature allows, in a single pass, to harvest corn and simultaneously windrow the chopped material. This material can then be easily collected by balers or self-loading wagons and used in biogas digesters (for renewable energy production), animal bedding, or incinerators. DragoGT with Auger for collecting corn residues is therefore a unique and efficient system that increases farm income while contributing to sustainable development.
For sunflower harvesting, Olimac offers Drago Gold, the only sunflower header equipped with a hydraulic stalk chopper, which allows the stalk to be cut at ground level, collecting only the sunflower head without the stem.
Olimac DragoGT, Drago2, and Drago Gold, awarded every year in the most prestigious Technical Innovation Awards promoted by the leading International Agricultural Machinery Exhibitions, continue to confirm their leadership in corn and sunflower fields worldwide, serving both farmers and contractors.
