About
The DiNoHerb research project (mechanical weed control in herbicide-free, regenerative no-till farming and living mulch systems) is developing a new farming concept for regenerative, herbicide-free, and soil-conserving agriculture. The project aims to develop the necessary technical components and plant selection based on direct seeding technology. Yield security is ensured by selecting suitable seeds and crop rotations, as well as by using the newly developed components to regulate cover crops and weeds. Sufficient vegetation interruption/killing of the cultivated cover crop is crucial for successful no-till cultivation so that the main crop can establish itself. Important characteristics when selecting cover crops are their competitive strength against weeds and the highest possible mortality rate of the cover crop plants after mechanical control measures.
The aim is for the entire arable farming concept to deliver a higher yield than a control variant without weed control and to achieve an equivalent yield compared to a conventional variant in which herbicides are used. When assessing the yield, both the harvested natural yield/ha and the agricultural resilience and economic efficiency of the entire system are important.
