Michael Spandern is a seasoned expert in food and agribusiness, with over 30 years of global experience across the entire value chain. He holds a degree in Agronomy from the University of Kiel and qualified as a Brewer and Distiller at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. His career spans continents and industries, covering leadership roles in sales, commodity trading, raw material processing, and supply chain management.
Known for his strategic thinking and hands-on leadership, Michael has helped businesses navigate complex markets while embedding sustainability and circular economy principles at their core. He has led commercial and operational transformations for both corporates and growth-stage enterprises, with a consistent focus on long-term impact and ecological responsibility.
His commitment to systemic change recently led him to accept a PhD assignment at the University of Tokyo, where he is conducting research into grain production systems within planetary boundaries.
Michael is also a certified executive mentor and trainer, supporting senior leaders and entrepreneurs in the food, agriculture, and sustainability sectors. He combines practical business insight with a strong coaching ethos, helping professionals develop resilient, value-driven leadership styles.
In 2025, Michael joined xFarm Technologies to spearhead its expansion across German-speaking markets. His deep understanding of ag-tech, paired with his credibility in the industry, makes him a key figure in scaling digital solutions for more sustainable and efficient farming.
Outside of his professional life, Michael is a professional-level jazz drummer.
