Farm Forward 2035 – Visions of Smart Efficiency from Three Continents

The structural shift toward larger agricultural operations continues to gain momentum. Large-scale farms benefit from increased efficiency, higher productivity, and economies of scale. At the same time, they face growing demands in terms of management and strategic planning. On the Expert Stage, owners and managers of major agricultural enterprises will share their visions for the future development of their businesses. They will provide insights into how the integration of artificial intelligence, digitalization, automation, robotics, and workforce management can support the effective operation of complex farm structures in arable farming.

The Farm stays male – but why?

Even today, farms are often traditionally passed down to the son in many families. But why is that? What social, family, and structural reasons lie behind this practice – and what happens when a daughter wants to take over the farm? In this panel discussion, we will explore the topic from different perspectives: A female farmer who took over her father’s farm will share her journey into responsibility and the challenges that came with it. Another participant grew into the business as a daughter-in-law and now runs it together with her husband. The discussion will also include a coach who professionally supports farm succession and has personally experienced how the handover in her own family failed. Together, we want to discuss the obstacles women face in farm succession, the opportunities that arise from it – and what needs to change so that more women can find their place in agriculture.
