Thermal spray technology in agriculture

Development and application of a coating system with increased wear resistance and integrated optical wear indicator Thermal spraying is already an established coating process for wear and corrosion protection. The project aims to transfer and expand the known advantages of this process to increase the wear resistance of soil cultivation tools in agriculture. Due to selective and uneven wear on the tines of cultivators, it is often impossible to determine the wear limit of the components. This often results in component failure and the tines remaining in the field. The development of a coating system consisting of a wear-indicating and resistant coating is intended to enable farmers to use their tools more economically. In addition to comparative abrasion tests, field trials are also being carried out as part of the project.
