At Plug&Cool, we would always recommend checking your grain storage equipment and addressing any issues before the busy harvest season.
Pedestals
Check that you have enough pedestals in your storage area. We recommend placing them three metres away from the wall, and five metres apart from each other. Make sure that each pedestal is cleaned down of any dust and debris from the previous harvest.
Fans
Check the condition of each cooling fan you have, and if necessary, order more fans. Make sure the impeller of the fan is working correctly and that the motor runs well. Turning each fan on well in advance is always advised.
Temperature Control
If you have the budget to do so, we recommend investing in automatic fan control. A simple Multi-Zone control panel can help take the stress away from grain cooling by shutting off your fans when they don’t need to run. Despite a bigger outlay to begin with, you could drastically cut your energy costs and improve efficiency within the store.
Temperature Monitoring
Even if you take the plunge and install temperature control equipment, it’s probably worth going a bit further with some wireless sensor spears. It’s important to monitor the temperature and moisture of your stored grain. At Plug&Cool, we recommend the AgroLog Wireless Sensor Spears for their simplicity and user-friendly interface. If you have this equipment set up already, it’s worth checking if it works correctly in unison with your control panel and fans.
Airspears
Plug&Cool Aeration Spears are incredibly handy in an emergency, or if the size of your grain store doesn’t warrant traditional grain pedestals. Sometimes small pockets of warm air can appear in hard-to-reach areas so it’s worth having some Airspears and Airspear fans on-site just in case. They’re lightweight and easy to screw into the grain, making them a vital addition to your store.
At Plug&Cool we always try and give our customers the best deal possible to help with the increasing costs of arable farming. Our package deals offer big discounts and cater to a wide variety of grain stores. We understand that it can be a headache shopping around, trying to find the best deal, which is why we have everything you need all in one place.
