Michel Chatelain, owner of a 500-hectare farm in Chemaze, France, shared with us the details of his agricultural approach, demonstrating how precision technology and careful crop management can maximize results.
On his farm, the land is sown in September using the Virkar Ocean 7m direct seeder, ensuring uniform and precise seeding. At the time of sowing, a small dose of fertilizer (40 kg of 10-15-0%) is applied alongside the seeds to ensure optimal crop establishment.
During the growing season, additional fertilizer is distributed with a conventional disc spreader. To further strengthen the plants, essential micronutrients such as iron, boron, zinc, copper, manganese, and molybdenum are sprayed onto the wheat.
Thanks to this combination of precise seeding and careful crop management, the farm achieves a yield of 12 tons per hectare. After a glyphosate application, the previous cover crop withers, allowing the Virkar direct seeder to plant at 75 kg/ha (approximately 160 plants/m²) at a speed of 8km/h.
This example demonstrates how Virkar technology and proper crop management can transform agricultural productivity.
