AvMap srl, the Italian pioneer in agricultural GPS, operating in the precision agriculture sector with the FARMNAVIGATOR brand, has obtained ISO/SAE 21434 - Cybersecurity for Road Vehicles certification from DNV, an international standard developed to ensure cybersecurity in electronic systems of vehicles, including agricultural machinery.
This important certification, applied by AvMap to its embedded electronic solutions, represents a significant milestone in the process of protecting data and the digital infrastructure used to connect tractors and farms, for improved activity reporting and more efficient business management.
As precision agriculture evolves, the interconnection of machinery, sensors, the cloud, and software exposes farms to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Protecting digital systems means safeguarding operational availability, the confidentiality of agronomic data, and process security.
The ISO/SAE 21434 standard defines rigorous requirements for managing cybersecurity risks throughout the lifecycle of a vehicle electronic system: from analysis and design to production, maintenance, and decommissioning. AvMap's certification attests to the adoption of development and control processes capable of preventing unauthorized access, cyber-attacks, and compromise of critical functions.
Products such as FARMNAVIGATOR 4G Agri SIM (telematics hotspot for agricultural machinery), FARMNAVIGATOR Tracker Agri (tracker for agricultural fleets), the FARMNAVIGATOR All in One RTK connected antenna, and the MyFarmnavigator.com cloud for agricultural fleet management, are developed following these requirements and best practices.
“Cybersecurity is no longer an option, but an essential requirement to address the challenges of the digital transition in agriculture. This transition is necessary to comply with EU regulations which is introducing strict rules for the connected machinery, like the RED CS and the CRA”, states Simone Lazzarini, CEO of AvMap srl.
"It was a real pleasure to meet the AvMap team and deliver the certificate in accordance with ISO/SAE 21434 – a standard developed in response to real-world incidents that highlighted the importance of rigorous cybersecurity management in the automotive sector. The achievement adds further value to the pioneering journey that AvMap successfully led over the past decades, both in terms of technological innovation and diversification of product application sectors." added Maurizio Bellina, South Europe Area Manager at DNV.
Present in over 30 countries under the FARMNAVIGATOR brand, AvMap provides farmers, contractors, and manufacturers of agricultural vehicles and machinery, with reliable solutions protected by a cybersecurity system designed according to automotive industry standards.
ISO/SAE 21434 certification is a key step in AvMap's vision of a digital, secure, and sustainable agriculture, where technological innovation goes hand in hand with the protection of digital infrastructure and sensitive data..
